James Pazak was born in Newport News, Virginia but he didn’t live there for long.  As a member of a military family, he enjoyed moving almost every year growing up.  Playing football, baseball and basketball were James’ favorite hobbies as a child.  James knew he wanted to help people and work in healthcare and was inspired to become a speech pathologist by his aunt, also a speech pathologist.

Choosing to study in the west, James earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications Disorders from the University of Redlands in California and his Master’s degree in Clinical Speech Pathology from Northern Arizona University.  His professional experiences, combined with his travels, have helped him learn how to connect with people in order to help them.

James is a proud husband and father of three boys and enjoys spending free time with friends and family.

Dr. Adam I. Friedman grew up in Encino, California.  As a child he was an avid tennis player and snow skier.  His father was a physician, and for as long as he can remember, he has always wanted to be a surgeon.  After graduating from The Brentwood School, he attended Emory University, where he was a member of the Dean’s list throughout his education.  Additionally, he was a member of numerous pre-medical and philosophy honors societies.

He graduated from Emory with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and subsequently completed his medical school and residency training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Southern California.  Dr. Friedman is fluent in Spanish and relishes every chance he gets to practice using his second language.  He is currently board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology.

In his free time, Dr. Friedman enjoys cooking.  His family is originally from Omaha, Nebraska and they are huge Cornhusker fans.  The Godfather is his favorite movie and he regards John Steinbeck’s East of Eden as the best book ever written.

Dr. Friedman’s partners regard him as fastidious, detail-oriented, thorough, precise, honest and very well-liked by his patients.

Dr. D. David Saadat played soccer, table tennis and badminton while growing up in Iran.  As a teenager he made the brave decision to move in with his uncle in California where he attended Beverly Hills High School.

Dr. Saadat’s fascination with facial anatomy inspired him to specialize in otolaryngology and facial plastic surgery because the face is the most intricate and challenging area of the body.  After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at California State University, Northridge he went to medical school at the University of Southern California.  Dr. Saadat completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery at USC and is triple board certified in Facial Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine.

Castaway, Scarface and The Godfather are some of Dr. Saadat’s favorite movies.  On weekends he enjoys spending time with his family and friends and going to the movies.

His partners describe him as obsessed with perfect aesthetics, talented and as having an eye for detail.

Dr. Satish R. Vadapalli was born in Burlington, Vt. and grew up playing soccer, tennis and the saxophone in Boca Raton, Fla.  As the valedictorian of his high school class, he received numerous scholarships, was a National Merit Scholar and was immediately accepted into the prestigious six-year program at Pennsylvania State University and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa.  After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Science and graduating with honors, he moved west and began his residency at the University of Southern California (USC).  It was during this time when he met his lovely wife, Dr. Sununda Vadapalli, a pediatrician.  Dr. Vadapalli served on the USC faculty for a year after residency, and he is dual board certified in Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Vadapalli chose Otolaryngology because he enjoys caring for patients of all ages, working on the smallest anatomy of the body and the balance between office visits and surgery.

Star Wars is Dr. Vadapalli’s favorite movie, and on weekends he coaches his children’s soccer teams.

According to his colleagues, Dr. Vadapalli is the most versatile individual in that he can perform surgery, fix a computer and shuttle his children to after school activities all in one day.  He is also thorough and intelligent.

As a fourth generation physician, you could say Dr. C. Philip Amoils was born with medicine in his blood.  While playing soccer and rugby in Johannesburg, South Africa was fun for Dr. Amoils, his favorite hobby was flying across Southern Africa with his father’s patients.   The senior Dr. Amoils specialized in Ear, Nose &Throat, and many of his patients were airline and Air Force pilots.  Dr. Amoils’ grandfather, the esteemed Lung Specialist, Dr. Charles Hurwitz, took Dr. Amoils on a tour of the new Johannesburg General Hospital and medical school in 1975 before he entered high school and encouraged him to help others.  Dr. Hurwitz treated mine workers, and the Charles Hurwitz TB Hospital is named in his honor.  The tradition continues as Dr. Amoils’ niece is studying otolaryngology at Stanford University.

After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy from the University of Johannesburg and attending medical school locally, Dr. Amoils moved to San Francisco for a research residency in hearing and balance.  He then attended the University of Southern California, and studied otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat medicine).  Dr. Amoils is board certified in Otolaryngology by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Saving Private Ryan and Top Gun are two of Dr. Amoils’ favorite movies.  In his free time he trades in his medical instruments for a camera and enjoys traveling.  The amazing photographs in the SCENT offices are courtesy of Dr. Amoils.

His partners say he has a great bedside manner, is very personable, carefree,

good-hearted, and the most out of the box thinker in the practice.
